Epitalon is the smallest peptide we stock and the one whose certificate is easiest to read, because a four-residue peptide leaves very little room for ambiguity. The complication with epitalon is not chemistry but naming: epitalon, epithalon and epithalone are one compound, and search results, supplier listings and papers use all three. This page settles the identity, explains what a certificate for a tetrapeptide should contain, and covers ordering within Canada.
One compound, three spellings
Epitalon is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, written AEDG, with a calculated monoisotopic mass of 390.35 Da. It is a synthetic version of a fragment attributed to the bovine pineal extract epithalamin, which is where the alternative spellings come from. Epithalon and epithalone are transliteration variants, not different molecules, and our article on epitalon and epithalon spelling and identity traces the history. Whatever the label says, the certificate should report a mass of 390 Da and an AEDG sequence.
Why a tetrapeptide certificate looks different
With four residues there is almost nowhere for a synthesis to go wrong, so the typical impurity profile is short: a deletion sequence missing one residue, a truncated dipeptide or tripeptide, and residual counter-ion. On the chromatogram these elute early and close to the main peak, because a 390 Da peptide is barely retained on a reversed-phase column to begin with. A certificate that shows a sharp, early-eluting main peak with a gradient that starts at low organic is doing the method properly. One that runs a standard 5 to 65% gradient designed for 30-residue peptides may report a purity figure that is honest but a chromatogram that tells you little.
Epitalon has no aromatic residue, so there is no absorbance at 280 nm. Detection has to be at 210 to 220 nm, where the peptide bond absorbs, and any certificate claiming 280 nm detection for this compound should be questioned. Our note on detecting peptides without a chromophore explains the alternatives.
Net content on a small peptide
Counter-ion and water make up a larger share of the gross mass for a small, acidic peptide than for a large one. Epitalon has two carboxylate side chains and a C-terminal acid, so the acetate or trifluoroacetate salt form can account for a meaningful fraction of the 10 mg in the vial. If your work is quantitative, the net peptide content figure, where the laboratory reports it, is the number to use rather than the label mass. The article on counter-ions and salt forms covers the arithmetic.
Storage and handling
Lyophilised epitalon is stable at minus 20 °C for extended periods and is not especially hygroscopic. It dissolves readily in water. In solution the aspartate-glycine junction is a known site for isoaspartate formation, which produces an impurity of identical mass and shifted retention time, so stock solutions should be made fresh or kept frozen in aliquots rather than stored at 4 °C for weeks. Deamidation and the 0.98 Da shift describes what that looks like on a later re-analysis.
What we supply
Epitalon 10 mg is supplied as a single lyophilised vial at 99%+ purity. Published certificates are on the certificates page, and vials are matched to their report by cap and crimp colour.
Buying epitalon in Canada
Orders ship from stock held inside Canada, so there is no customs processing, no duty and no brokerage fee. Dispatch is usually within one business day; Canada Post, Purolator, FedEx and UPS services are offered at checkout with tracking on every parcel, and tracked shipping is free on orders over $200. GST or HST is charged at the delivery province’s rate and itemised on the invoice.
Volume pricing counts every vial in the order, so epitalon ordered alongside other compounds moves the whole cart toward the next break. The per-milligram price list puts it in context against the rest of the catalogue.
Research use only
Epitalon from ExoLabz is a laboratory reference material for in vitro and analytical research. It is not a drug, not a supplement, and not for human or veterinary use. We do not provide dosing or administration information. The purity guarantee refunds the product and the cost of the test if an independent laboratory finds a vial below its stated purity.
Built for Canadian labs that check the data
Packed and handed to the carrier usually within one business day, then tracked across Canada, typically 1 to 4 business days outside the territories.
Independent laboratories run the HPLC and purity work. Certificates live on the certificates page and on selected product pages, and cap and crimp colour ties a vial to its document.
Test a vial yourself. If an independent laboratory reports a purity failure, the product is refunded and the cost of that test comes back with it.
Free over $200 CAD, with no clearance, duty or brokerage anywhere in the country, and quantity pricing applied in the cart.
Email and live chat reach someone who knows the catalogue, with replies in about an hour, day or night.
Encrypted payment in Canadian dollars, plain protective packaging, and parcels released only to the named purchaser.
