Transit into Montreal

Montreal is on the main eastern corridor and domestic transit into it is quick. Two local characteristics are worth planning around. The first is the housing stock: a great deal of the city is walk-up triplexes with exterior staircases and no lobby, which means an unattended delivery is often genuinely outdoors rather than in a hallway. The second is that a substantial share of institutional deliveries go to a central receiving point, where a parcel can wait a day after tracking says it arrived.

Montreal’s research addresses are concentrated and well defined: McGill’s downtown campus and the Glen site, Universite de Montreal and the CHUM research centre, Concordia, the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montreal, the Lady Davis Institute at the Jewish General, and INRS at Laval. Spring, and the freeze-thaw window

Montreal’s genuinely awkward season for received material is not January but March and April, when the temperature crosses zero twice a day for weeks at a time.

The exposure is to material that has already been reconstituted and is being moved between a bench, a fridge and a freezer in a building whose loading area is effectively outdoors.
